The meaning of your LORD name

Postby Darksoulz on Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:50 am

What is the meaning behind your LORD characters name?
What inspired your LORD characters name?

Please stay on topic. I think it would be very intersting to hear everybodies answer to this.

The name Darksoulz was based on the name of one of the bad guys in Shining Force for the Sega Genesis. My all time favorite game to this day.

In Shining Force there is a bad guy named Darksol. I just changed the spelling to Darksoul and then decided to end it in a z for no reason at all. So that is how I came up with the name Darksoulz.

LadyLord = My last name is Lord. My husband calls me "M'lady" all the time, anyhow, so I figured LadyLord was fitting.

Interesting topic. I believe I've noted this once or twice here before, but again, for the record, Dazhbog--the zh is pronounced like the s in "pleasure" and the stress is on the second syllable of the word--is one of the names of the ancient Slavic sun god. "Bog" (with a long o--"boag," not swamp) still means God/god in modern Russian.

I'm a historian focused specifically on Russia in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and also on questions of religious belief and practice in Russia, Europe, and to some extent, worldwide. I'm fascinated by the interaction between monotheisms and the pagan belief systems they've sought to supplant. Those systmes always leave traces even in places and times when they can be said to have been effectively eliminated.

Mine is based on a song by my favourite band, The Whitlams. The tune is called 'You Sound Like Louis Burdett' (as in lou-ee) but the person they are singing about in the song is a male, so I added the -femme.

It's a very fast paced song and goes off live, and one of the lines is, 'All my friends are fuck ups, but they're fun to have around.' Sort of describes my friends. Well, a few of them.

Neon: Atomic number 10. One of the noble gases. Along with helium and argon, one of only 3 elements not known to form any bonds with any other elements.

You can guess what that alludes to. Substitute "covalent" with "social", and you'll get the idea. Ironically, I chose this name along with a few of my high school friends, which would imply that these human noble gases did in fact form social bonds.

I no longer talk to any of the other noble gases, though I've maintained use of the nick for lack of a better one.

I've had Ryat for quite a while, it came about when I was 14 and I joined the 'Dragonriders of Pern' mud with the handle 'Deth'. I didn't know anything about the books it was based on or what acceptable names were or even what a mud was....but the mods informed me that Deth was an innapropriate name, so I came up with Ryat...which I thought was being cheeky, and they thought was being assholish, ultimatly I was kicked off that mud, but Ryat stuck.

Still haven't read those books....

ryat, you got it like that....

Ram is made from my First, Middle, and Last Initials.

Iluvatar I got from reading JRR Tolkien's Silmarilian, which is the precursor to all the well known books, such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and Iluvatar is the God and Creator of Middle Earth and the rest of the fantasy's worlds.

I once went by Machiavelli after reading The Prince

EMaGdNiM was a name I went by simply for change a few rounds ago. I was going to do the caps differently, but Electra started my character, so it stuck, and I like it better this way now.

Now I only go by Iluvatar or EMaGdNiM in the game, but who knows, maybe Ram will come back. I seem to need something to change my recent luck ::dasha::

I've actually had many, many messages to me sent about my name in the game. Most people assume I chose it because of the movie; I didn't (hence why there is no k). I chose the name because of the myth and because the play by Sophocles is one of my favourites. I like it for many reasons, most of them personal and because I can relate to it.

Nuke's brother used to call me Wad.

One day, while playing Commander Keen IV and rescuing mystics, I got amused by the whole mystics thing.

Later, when first joining a bbs, I took hold of the nickname and named myself Mystic Wad (sorta a joke, but eh). My very first LORD name was Wadd, to further the joke. I eventually got tired of this and became OverLord (with the correct colors), because I thought it looked cool, and it was kinda punny.

Later, when starting my own BBS, I had at one point signed a post "- The Mystical One" and Nuke said something to the effect of, "Dude. You should change your name to that." So I did.

Wadd was, incidentally, the first LORD name I used on Nuklear LORD. Sometime before the first dragon in the first round, I remembered about colors and changed my name to OverLord.

Claudia actully came from a book, Im sure everyone has either read or seen Interview with a Vampire, when I was in high school I loved her character so I went with that name. Later on I also created a D&D character with the same name, who turned out to kick some serious ass, and lets just say in the lays department would have given Silver Girl a run for her money, though that isn't happaning here.

And yes Im a D&D nerd

Kroz (sometimes pronounced "K-Roz" or "K to the Roz" because i'm a rapper*) is a nickname I received in highschool based on my last name (which I'm not telling because I don't want anyone looking me up in the phonebook and dropping by my house in the middle of the night, because I'm pretty sure that would happen).

*I'm not really a rapper.

When I started playing Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing for the Sega Genesis,

I didn't know what to name my boxer. My cousin suggested I call him Herbnosis, as in, I'm going to Herbnotize you with my flying fists! Since then it's been my generic Internet handle.

I've also gone by Steve Nash and Slartibartfast in the Test Realm, though I have yet to go by anything else in the colored realms.

my nickname tikel came from spelling error of the word tickle
I used it for playing doom, duke and other deathmatch games and in BBS.

Postby HotShot on Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:16 pm

One of my friends told me about the whole BBS thing back in 94-95 and when I first entered the LORD realm, I chose a player name of HotShot, mostly out of arrogance. Since then, it's been my handle in a variety of situations, and I've based IM names and email addresses on it. I tried to buy, but that was already taken in 98 or so.

Other names I've gone by:
Hurley/Sayeed/The Torturer/Sawyer - reference to the tv show Lost
Valerie Plame - cheeky name I had for a few days when Herb revealed my identity as Hurley
Nord - some form of concatenation of LORD and nerd; also a Viking
MichaelScott - reference to the tv show The Office

A street name in my home town.

I always thought it would make a cool name for an RPG character.

I guess it kind of makes him a porn star.
